Mission Mangal, which performed well at the box office on its second Monday, might just be Akshay Kumar’s first entry into the Rs 200-crore club.
Jagan Shakti’s space drama Mission Mangal has been soaring to new highs every single day and is smashing milestone after milestone even in its second week. After crossing the Rs 150-crore mark in 11 days, the film earned around Rs 5.75 crore on Monday, taking its total collection so far to around Rs 170.36 crore.
Not just at the box office in India, Mission Mangal is performing well at the box office outside India as well, and is currently inching towards the Rs 50-crore mark in overseas markets.
Mission Mangal, which is currently the fourth-highest Bollywood grosser this year after Kabir Singh, Uri: The Surgical Strike and Bharat, is likely to be Akshay Kumar’s first film to breach the Rs 200-crore mark. Though the star has delivered 10 hits in a row, the Rs 200-crore club remains elusive for him.
Mission Mangal has already broken many of Akshay’s records at the box office. On its first day, it earned Rs 29.16 crore to become his biggest-ever opener. The film has also become his second-fastest film to cross the Rs 150-crore mark, after Shankar’s 2.0.
Mission Mangal, which features Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari, Nithya Menen and Sharman Joshi as scientists of the Indian Space Research Organisation, brings to 70mm the story of the Mars Orbiter Mission. With the success of the mission, which has been lauded for its low cost, India became the first nation in the world to achieve this feat in its maiden attempt.
This Independence Day, Mission Mangal was not the only big Bollywood release. It clashed at the box office with John Abraham-starrer Batla House, but managed to beat its competitor in terms of numbers.
With days to go for the next big film, Prabhas and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer Saaho, which releases on August 30, Mission Mangal is expected to continue its dream run at the box office.
